Private Schools
Mackay currently offers approx-imately twelve private junior and senior schools/colleges. They are equally spread on either side of the Pioneer River.
Recent rankings saw Whitsunday Anglican School, St. Patrick’s College, Holy Spirit College, and St. Mary’s Catholic Primary score well. That being said, we know the remaining schools are also providing excellent learning outcomes for their students.
Some of the private colleges offer boarding facilities for students who live out in the country. For example, Whitsunday Anglican College caters for 78 boarders per year from Years 5 to 12.
The academic facilities and quality of teaching associated with each school is second to none. For a town like Mackay, we certainly punch above our weight when it comes to private education.
Public Schools
Due to the rich history in the region, Mackay has some very old schools, such as the Mackay Central State School (circa 1871). This school has stood the test of time and still operates fully with over 150 students.
Conversely, new schools like Northern Beaches State School have developed into major educational hubs for residents in Rural View, Eimeo, Bucasia, Blacks Beach, and Dolphin Heads. Further investment is planned for 2023 to build a Community Centre, Library, and Leisure Space adjacent to the school.
