In summer, the best sport activities for kids has to be near the beach. It’s best not to enter the water unless it has been patrolled recently. In Eimeo, you often see kids learning surf life saving skills. You’ll also find SUP riders cruising along our waterways.

Things To Do Near Mackay
Here are some things to do near Mackay. The Mackay region hosts some of the best natural wonders in Australia.
Fishing, camping and boating are popular things to do near Mackay. There are loads of free and low-cost activities for locals. Many people in the region own boats and explore the rivers, estuaries, creeks, and reef to catch the elusive barramundi. Beware of the big ‘salties’ in the area. Saltwater Crocodiles can be seen from time-to-time.
Every weekend can be an adventure. Take a drive out to Eungella and view the Pioneer Valley, search for a platypus at Broken River, watch a sunrise with wallabies on the beach at Cape Hillsborough.
One of my favourite things to do near Mackay would be a day trip into Cathu State Forest. The views are spectacular and the mountain air refreshing. The region boats some of the best 4WD tracks in Queensland and if you want to try remote camping, it’s all possible. I have too many favourite things to do near Mackay. Camp right alongside Kinchant Dam, catch barra, or watch the speedboats race across the water. It’s only a 30 minute drive out of town and worth the effort.
For a safe swim, consider the Bluewater Lagoon, an inner-city water park for young and old.
