FREE CAMPING IN MACKAY
The region is blessed with some of the best Mackay Campgrounds, especially free camping spots in Queensland. Here are our Top 3 camping spots, courtesy of WikiCamps:
1. Notch Point Campgrounds
Our favourite campground on the Central Queensland Coast. It’s a great fishing spot with the surprising addition of roaming cows. Campfires are prohibited, and a 4WD is recommended.
2. The Leap Hotel
A flat green campsite for a free overnight stay, next to the Leap Hotel. While you’re not obligated, we recommend you purchase a meal or a drink at the bar to support the providers of the free camp.
3. Lake Elphinstone
Watersport lovers will love this free camp located on the natural lake . Equipped with new, clean facilities and ideal to stop at in the wet season.
Clairview - Mackay Campgrounds
Barra Crab Caravan Park is located approximately 90 minutes drive south of Mackay. It offers a quaint beachside bar, pub style meals, and a view unlike any other.
The beach is famous for it’s dugong population and offers a camping experience that is rustic and unique.
Caravan Parks and Hip Camps
For those seeking a more connected camping experience consider one of the 17 Caravan Parks dotted within a 35km radius of the CBD. These Mackay Campgrounds are popular among travelers. The Blacks Beach Big 4 is close to the ocean. For a truly authentic experience stay at Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park and experience wallabies on the beach at sunrise.
Other great camping locations include the dog friendly Hold It Flats near Yalboroo, Oh Deere Farm Stay at Calen, and Jarravale Farm Stay in Marian.
