Northern Beaches Community Hub
The Northern Beaches Community Hub will be a welcoming local meeting place with access to a range of community facilities in the heart of the fastest-growing area in Mackay.
It is envisioned that the community hub will include an undercover community meeting space, library, rain garden and playspace, aquatic centre, and meeting rooms.
The northern suburbs of the Mackay urban area, namely Rural View, Eimeo, Blacks Beach, Dolphin Heads, Bucasia and Shoal Point, are collectively referred to as the Northern Beaches.
The Northern Beaches experienced the highest population growth rate during the recent high growth period in the Mackay region, growing from 8,800 in 2001 to an expected 22,000 in 2023.
Mackay Regional Council has identified that the Northern Beaches will become a major transport hub and vital to the growth of the region.

Pioneer Valley Mountain Bike Trails
The Pioneer Valley Mountain Bike Trails will comprise of a 100km network of mountain bike trails spanning from Eungella to Finch Hatton in the picturesque Pioneer Valley. It includes 13km of trails and a purpose-built trailhead, with direct road frontage to Anzac Parade.
Mayor Greg Williamson said the Pioneer Valley Mountain Bike trails would be a lucrative national and international tourism drawcard.
The trailhead will include entry statements, picnic areas with shelters, amenity blocks, pump track, car parks, bike wash, and open recreational space.
The 13km of trails will have varying degrees of difficulty from beginner to advanced. Stage one is expected to be open by Christmas this year.

Mackay Waterfront Developments
Mackay has the unique advantage of boasting both riverfront and beachfront next to the city centre. The Mackay Waterfront will establish a range of culturally vibrant, accessible, liveable, and attractive places that support the growth, investment, and development of Mackay.
The Mackay Waterfront will be an expression of a mixed–use live, work and play waterfront environment that meets the needs of current and future residents and visitors while celebrating its regional and river city focus, heritage assets, climate and local identity.
An active and vibrant waterfront setting affords an exciting opportunity to improve the region’s liveability and regional economy.
Sarina Hospital Developments
Construction on the $31.5m Sarina Hospital commenced in February 2022. It will be located on a flat site in Brewer’s Road and feature an improved layout with capacity for 19 beds. The new hospital will provide enhanced facilities and is expected to be completed in mid-2024.
Sarina residents may have noticed changes to the skyline along Brewer’s Road as work on the new $31.5 million Sarina Hospital picks up pace.
Queensland Hydro Development
The Pioneer-Burdekin Project will deliver long-duration pumped hydro energy storage assets in the Pioneer Valley and adjacent ranges. It is expected to produce up to 5,000 MW of power and provide up to 24 hours of energy storage. The Project is currently in the investigation phase to better understand its impacts and benefits.
Investigation work will start at the proposed lower reservoir site in Netherdale to progress the development of the Project. This work will occur concurrently with investigations already underway in Dalrymple Heights.
The work includes geotechnical drilling to identify soil and rock types and ground conditions, surface and groundwater monitoring, and a range of visual inspections to survey the ecological and cultural heritage values of the area.
Investigations are expected to be ongoing for about 12 months, weather and site conditions permitting.
